Anderson forward Jalen Hillery has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played during Week 11 of the 2022-2023 season, the conference announced Monday.
Hillery, a graduate student from Lawrenceville, Georgia, led the Trojans to a 2-0 record last week, with wins over Wingate (97-66) and UVA Wise (84-82).
Hillery scored a career-high 40 points, going 15-for-19 (78.9%) from the field, including a career- and program-best 10 3-pointers. He also pulled down six rebounds and had an assist against the Bulldogs.
He followed that performance with a 17-point showing against UVA Wise, where he shot 60% from the floor (6-for-10) and was 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.
For the week, he averaged 28.5 points and 3.5 rebounds, and he shot 72.4% from the field, 68.8% from long range and 80% from the charity stripe.
