Catawba’s Savanna Balderston was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Coker’s Jenae Fedewa was named the SAC Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during Week 3 of the 2023 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Balderston, a sophomore outfielder from Belews Creek, North Carolina, went 7-for-12 as part of Catawba’s 4-0 week, including three doubles and eight RBIs. 

She piled on four RBIs in Catawba’s 13-4 win over Belmont Abbey, during which, the team scored 10 unanswered runs. 

Then, in the opener against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, she had three hits, driving in a run each time. 

Fedeawa, a senior pitcher from Winter Park, FL, threw her first collegiate no-hitter as the Cobras defeated Converse 9-0 on Wednesday. She sat down 16 of the 17 batters that she faced with four strikeouts and allowed just one walk in the five innings that she pitched.
