Jaydon Hibbert of Arkansas set a new facility record on his first jump to win the men's triple jump title at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
AUSTIN -- Jaydon Hibbert of Arkansas set a new facility record on his first jump to win the men's triple jump title at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Hibbert's opening jump of 17.56m/57-7.5 broke the stadium record of 17.13m/56-2.5 set in 2019 by Du Mapaya of TCU.
Hibbert's victory was a big moment for Arkansas, which won its first NCAA outdoor title in the triple jump since 1988. He is the first freshman to win the triple jump at the NCAA championships since 2014.

The competition was strong, with nine athletes jumping over 16 meters, but none were able to catch Hibbert's big first round mark.
Russell Robinson of Miami came closest, finishing second with a third-round jump of 16.94m/55-7. Jeremiah Davis of Florida State was third at 16.67m/54-8.25.
"I'm really thankful," Hibbert said. "I came out injury free, and I went with the crowd. I haven't performed in front of a crowd like this one here at the national championships. I'm really happy."
