First Set Of BIG EAST Women's Soccer Weekly Awards Announced
The first weekly awards for BIG EAST women's soccer have been announced.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Kyla Gallagher, Providence, Sr., F
Gallagher provided consistent offense throughout the week, scoring a goal in each of Providence’s wins to begin the season. Gallagher did her scoring on six total shots, becoming one of three conference players to score twice through the first week. With the opening goal in the Friars’ win over Iona, as well as a penalty kick to put away Quinnipiac, the senior powered Providence to its first 2-0 start since 2020-21.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Athina Sofroniou, St. John’s, Jr., D
Sofroniou anchored the St. John’s defense last week to get out to a 1-0-1 start for the year. The junior defender was instrumental in the Red Storm’s back-to-back shutouts, as they outshot Farleigh Dickinson and Navy by a combined 24-9 margin, including 10-2 on goal, and had an 11-5 advantage in corners. To top it off, Sofroniou netted a 52nd-minute insurance goal to secure a 3-0 win over FDU on Thursday.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Maria Galley, Xavier, So., GK
Galley posted a 2-0-0 record in goal last week, with back-to-back solo shutouts against Northeastern and Louisville. The sophomore posted five total saves, four of which came against the Cardinals, to cement the Musketeers’ unbeaten start to the season.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kayla Briggs, Providence, Fr., F
Briggs led the BIG EAST in assists last week with four over two games to begin her collegiate career. The freshman recorded two assists in each of the Friars’ two wins to begin the season, helping her club score the most goals in the conference with five thus far. Briggs also added five shots in her opening weekend, part of Providence’s 34 total shots to begin the season, good for the second-highest total in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Norah Jacomen, Butler, Fr., F – BIG EAST weekly single-game high of five points (2g, 1a) in win over Illinois State; leads conference in total points with five
Jackie Harnett, UConn, Gr., D – anchored Huskies defense which earned a shutout victory in season opener against Boston University on Sunday, outshooting the Terriers 20-7, including 9-2 on net, while attempting 10 corners without allowing a single one
Allie Augur, Georgetown, Gr., GK – went 1-0-1 in goal with five total saves to go along with a shutout in a win at LMU
Jackie Richards, Villanova, Gr., F – posted a goal and an assist in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Marist, followed by a match-high eight shots in a 1-1 draw with Lehigh on Sunday
Ella Rogers, Xavier, Jr., M – recorded one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win over Louisville on Sunday; credited with the game-winner against the Cardinals to help Xavier to a 2-0 start
