Fred Kerley Announces Coaching Change, Working With Quincy Watts
The 3-time World champion has pivoted his training and will work with the Director of Track and Field at USC.
Less than a year out from the Paris Olympics, Fred Kerley, 28, has announced he's making a switch.
The 100 meter World Champion in 2022 announced on Tuesday his plans to train under Quincy Watts, the current Director of Track and Field at the University of Southern California.
Kerley is one of the U.S.'s most distinguished sprinters, having won three world titles, most recently a 4x100 gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest.
Kerley won the 100m world title outright in 2022 in Eugene and claimed a gold in the 4x400 in 2019. He was the silver medalist in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Watts won an Olympic 400m gold in 1992, clocking 43.50 in Barcelona to claim a new Olympic record. More recently, he led Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin at USC overseeing the sprints.
Kerley set an NCAA record in the 400m in 2017 while competing for Texas A&M.
In 2021, he was promoted to Director of Track and Field after the departure of Caryl Smith Gilbert to Georgia.
