Connacht Winger Byron Ralston Suspended For Hit On Jack O'Donoghue
Connacht winger Byron Ralston is suspended for three games due to dangerous play against Munster. He'll miss key upcoming Investec Champions Cup matches.
Connacht winger Byron Ralston has been handed a three-game suspension after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of dangerous play.
The incident occurred during Connacht's New Year's Day victory over Munster, where Ralston's challenge in a ruck led to a serious injury for Munster's No. 8, Jack O'Donoghue.
During the game, referee Chris Busby issued Ralston a yellow card following the challenge, which unfortunately resulted in O'Donoghue being stretchered off the field with a knee injury that will require surgery.
Post-match, Ralston was cited under Law 9.20d, which addresses dangerous play in rucks and mauls. Specifically, this law prohibits players from dropping their weight onto opponents or targeting their lower limbs in a ruck.
Connacht's Byron Ralston has been banned for three games for this clearout against Munster.

Though the Australian winger did not acknowledge that his actions warranted a red card, the independent disciplinary committee disagreed. They determined the offence met the criteria for a red card and initially considered a six-game suspension, as the incident was classified in the mid-range of severity.
However, considering several mitigating factors, the committee halved the suspension length. These factors included Ralston's clean disciplinary record, apology for the incident and overall conduct during the hearing. As a result, the suspension was reduced to three games.
This suspension means Ralston will be absent from key upcoming matches.
He will miss Connacht's remaining Investec Champions Cup pool games against Lyon and Bristol Bears.
Additionally, he cannot participate in Connacht's BKT United Rugby Championship match against Cardiff on Feb.17.
The loss of Ralston, a key player for Connacht, will be keenly felt as the team navigates these important fixtures.
