Kubota College Baseball Series Weekend 2 Top MLB Draft Prospects

The second weekend of the College Baseball Showdown begins on Feb. 23 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas at the Kubota College Baseball Series Weekend 2.

And Major League Baseball scouts will be logging on FloBaseball as the four teams, No.2 Arkansas, No. 4 Oregon State, Oklahoma State and Michigan all feature notable prospects eligible in the next two drafts.

Oregon State infielder Travis Bazzana leads the way as the top prospect playing over the three-weekend event that started on College Baseball Opening Day. Bazzana had one of the best opening weeks in the country as he led his team to a 4-0 record and hit three home runs with two stolen bases. He is currently the No. 3-ranked 2024 MLB Draft Prospect.

But could the top infielder in the 2025 MLB Draft be at Arlington this weekend?

He could. Here are the best 2024 and 2025 MLB Draft prospects playing at the Kubota College Baseball Series Weekend 2.

Travis Bazzana, Oregon State Baseball

The Sydney, Australia native is the No. 3 overall prospect for this year’s draft behind only JJ Wetherholt of West Virginia and Nick Kurtz of Wake Forest. He enters the weekend batting .450 with an OPS of 1.492 and a slugging percentage of 1.050. The leadoff hitter has three home runs, a double and a triple in five games.

Hagen Smith, Arkansas Baseball

Hagen Smith had a 3.64 ERA in 71.2 innings with 109 strikeouts in 2023 and is No. 15 and third-highest pitcher-only player in the top-100 rankings.

Smith has not pitched since Opening Day for Arkansas and the team hasn't announced it's starter for Friday's game as of Feb. 22. But it seems to lineup for the ace to face Oregon State on Friday. His first hitter he faces would be Bazzana, who hits leadoff for the Beavers.

Cason Benge, Oklahoma State

Carson Benge, one of the best hitters in college baseball, slashed .583/.833/.643 in week one. He scored three runs and drove in four more. The sophomore outfielder and pitcher is a top-30 prospect in the FloBaseball composite rankings, coming in at No. 26.

Benge had Tommy John surgery in  2022 and in 2023 he was a semifinalist for the John Olerud Award for best two-way player. As a pitcher in 2023, he had a 6.69 ERA in 10 starts 35 innings. As a hitter, he hist .345 with 17 doubles.

With a fastball clocked at 96, Benge is definitely as much of a pitching prospect as a hitter. In his first appearance this season he walked two and recorded an out in the four batters he faced last week.

Gavin Turley, Oregon State

Gavin Turley is the No. 16 overall prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft. He slashed 309/.438/.664 as freshman for Oregon State. The outfielder is the No. 8 college player in his draft. He started this season with a slash line of .333/1.256/.778 through five games.

Wehiwa Aloy, Arkansas Baseball

The sophomore is eligible for the 2025 draft and is currently the No. 13-ranked overall prospect in his class. At 6-foot-2, 195-pound, Aloy has a powerful frame at shortstop and had a slashline of .376/.427/.662 in 2023 when he played for Sacramento State. Baseball America also rates him as the No. 7 college prospect in the draft.

It’ll be a tough task to overtake high school prospect Ethan Holliday as the top infielder in the class, but a strong SEC season would surely move him up the rankings. In the first four games, Aloy is batting .294 with two walks, four RBI and five hits.

Trent Caraway, Oregon State

Trent Caraway was the No. 30 recruit in the country at Perfect Game. He was also the California Gatorade Player of the Year as a high school senior. His college career is starting with a five-game hitting streak with two home runs across his first two games.

He enters the Arkansas game with a slash line of .474/1.492/.947. He has two homers, three doubles and nine hits in five games. He has even stolen two bases.

The third baseman has also done this as the No. 9 hitter in the lineup batting ahead of All-American Travis Bazzana.

Nolan Schubart, Oklahoma State Baseball

Nolan Schubart, a preseason All-Big 12 player like Benge, is the No. 19-ranked 2025 MLB Draft college prospect at Baseball America and No. 38 overall. He enters the College Baseball Showdown slashing .250/.778/.500.

The 6-foot-5-inch outfielder was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023 and slashed  .338/.451/.667 with 20 doubles, 17 home runs and 74 RBI.

Janzen Keisel, Oklahoma State Baseball

Janzen Keisel is the No. 51 ranked college prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft. He is a BYU transfer who, like his teammate Gabe Davis, struggled some in 2023. He pitched in 18.1 innings in nine appearances and walked 19 batters.

But he is also off to a good start in 2024. He picked up a win over Sam Houston in Week 1 and pitched five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

Dylan Vigue, Michigan Baseball

The true freshman pitcher Dylan Vigue is the No. 73 ranked college player in the 2025 draft. He was named to the preseason All-Big Ten team before his first college baseball game. His first outing was a little rough with him going 4.1 innings while allowing five hits and three runs and two earned.

Gabe Davis, Oklahoma State

Gabe Davis is 6-foot-9 and 225 pounds. He pitched out of the bullpen last season and walked 19 batters while carrying a 7.92 ERA. But in 2024 he's pitched two innings of clean baseball with just one walk and two strikeouts. He's the No. 77-ranked college player in the 2025 draft.

He's also one of the tallest.

With that height comes a blistering fastball that has nearly touched 100 MPH.

Jonathan Kim, Michigan Baseball

Sophomore Jonathan Kim is the No. 85-ranked prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection as a freshman where he hist .323 with 10 doubles. He's considered one of the best center fielders in his class.

His slash line of .529/1.401/.765 to start the season was terrific and included five RBI, a home run, nine hits and a double.

No.1 MLB Prospect Jackson Holliday Is Nephew To OK State Baseball Coach Josh Holliday

The top prospect in all of baseball is Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday and in another universe he would be playing for the Cowboys today.

The No. 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft was committed to play for his uncle, Josh Holliday, who is in his 12th season at the helm of his alma mater. The brother of MLB All-Star Matt Holliday and son longtime OSU assistant and former head coach Tom, Josh Holliday had his nephew committed to the Cowboys.

But he was probably never playing college baseball given his phenom-like prospect grade. As a 19-year-old, Jackson Holliday was a non-roster invitee for the Orioles this spring and is expected to debut at some point in 2024.

Like his older brother, Ethan Holliday is currently Baseball America's No. 1 overall prospect  in the 2025 MLB Draft and the No.1 high school baseball recruit at Baseball America. While unlikely he'll play for his uncle, Ethan Holliday is committed to Oklahoma State.

When Is The 2024 MLB Draft?

The actual time and date of the MLB Draft hasn't been announced, but it will take place during 2024 MLB All-Star Week. MLB All-Star festivities kick off on Sunday, July 14, with the main event taking place on Tuesday, July 16.

In 2023, the draft began All-Star week on the Sunday before Tuesday's game between the National League and American League.
