Running Eagles Secure Falcon For Life
Anaya Falcon, ranked #2 at 110 pounds, will wrestle for Life University after winning her third California state wrestling championship.
Life University had quite a weekend.
On Friday, the Running Eagles dominated the Mid-South Conference Championships and will send 12 wrestlers to the NAIA Championships in Jamestown, North Dakota, on March 8-9.
On Saturday, Anaya Falcon — ranked #20 nationally in the pound-for-pound high school rankings — committed to Life University after winning her third California state championship. The Walnut High School star won the 105-pound title with an 8-0 win over Olivia Lopez of Hamilton in the finals.
"Securing my third state title feels so surreal -- truly a testament to my hard work," Falcon said. "Committing to Life University felt right for me; I loved the team's energy, and I believe the coaches will help me reach the next level."
Life University is seeking its first NAIA women's wrestling team championship following three second-place finishes over the past four seasons. Head coach Ashley Flavin has led her team to National Duals titles in two of the last three seasons.
"We're thrilled to have Anaya joining the team," Flavin said. "Gaining a recruit of her caliber immediately impacts the program, but more than that, her personality and drive are a great fit for our program. She's a good human and a joy to be around. We're excited to spend the next several years with her."
