College of Charleston Men's Basketball punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament following an overtime win 82-79 vs. No.7 Stony Brook earning the Cougars another CAA Championship. Charleston now has back-to back CAA Tournament Championships, the first CAA program to win consecutively since UNCW in 2016 and 2017.

The championship victory marks 12 straight wins for Charleston (27-7) and earned them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for a third time in the last seven years.

No.7 Stony Brook made their first CAA Tournament Finals appearance in school history following their wins against No.2 Drexel and No.3 Hofstra. The Seawolves March Madness run was one of the most exciting postseasons of the year featuring two double overtime wins and facing the CAA's toughest matchups it has to offer.

College of Charleston vs. Stony Brook  Basketball

The CAA Men's Basketball Championship went down to the wire between No.1 Charleston and No.7 Stony Brook with the Cougars prevailing with a final score of 82-79. The overtime thriller consisted of four score ties and 11 lead changes throughout the contest. 

For Charleston, junior guard Reyne Smith led the way with 23 points and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Smith shot 7-18 from the field and 6-15 from beyond the arc, he also helped seal the deal scoring eight of Charleston's nine points in overtime. 

 Ben Burnham followed with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Frankie Policelli, Ante Brzovic and Kobe Rodgers  also reached double figures.

Stony Brook fought hard as they have all tournament, but it Tyler Stephenson-Moore who led the spark with a game high 26 points while shooting 7-12 from 3-point FG.  Keenan Fitzmorris added 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while Aaron Clarke and Dean Noll also scored double figures.

Both teams shot the ball at a high breaking the record for most combined three pointers in the history of the Men's CAA Championship. Charleston shot 13-30 from three while Stony Brook shot 15-35. 

The Cougars will head into the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament looking to build off a first round exit last year following the 63-57 loss to No.12 San Diego State.

When Does The 2024 NCAA Tournament Start?

The tournament will begin with Selection Sunday on March 17, followed by the First Four on March 19-20. 

After the opening round is complete, the field will be set with the top 64 teams and the first round will start on March 21-22.

What Is Selection Sunday?

Selection Sunday is the day the NCAA committee releases the full tournament bracket initial seeding of all 68 teams. 

Thirty-two teams will automatically qualify for the tournament by winning their conference tournament. 

That leaves 36 other teams fighting for an at-large bid from the selection committee, which is considered through multiple stats and rankings to determine who receives the at-large bid.
