Northeastern baseball, picked to finish atop the Coastal Athletic Association in 2024, begins its pursuit of the league crown on March 22 when it heads to Hofstra for the conference-opening series for both teams.

The Huskies head to Long Island winners of three straight, eight of their last nine, and having scored at least nine runs in six of those outings. Northeastern is surging at the plate, where five of its primary batting order have averages of .315 or better. 

NU's pitching staff is completing the hitters' consistency with some dominant stuff out of Will Jones, Wyatt Scotti, Michael Gemma, Jake Gigliotti and Jack Bowery, all of whom have struck out at least 10 batters thus far on the campaign. 

The Huskies look to make a strong first impression in CAA action, and extend the woes of a Hofstra team trying to shake off a four-game losing skid. 

The Pride began the 2024 season against perennial College World Series contender Virginia, a tough way to open. They regrouped from the sweep by winning a series at Liberty and splitting a four-game set with New Mexico, but have gone 2-7 since after an 8-10 loss at Fordham on March 20. 

Hofstra returns to Hempstead for just its second series at University Field on the season, having debuted at home on March 12 in a win over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Players to Watch

Alex Lane, Northeastern 1B/OF 

Alex Lane, a First Team All-CAA selection in 2023, heads into the 2024 conference slate on an absolute tear. He is hitting a team-leading .444 with an OPS of 1.387, an .833 slugging percentage, 32 RBI and seven home runs. 

While consistently getting on base, Lane has made opponents pay with six stolen bases. He is one of four Huskies to have swiped at least five bags thus far, along with Justin Bosland (9-of-9), Jack Goodman (8-of-11) and highly touted MLB prospect Mike Sirota (5-of-6). 

Dylan Palmer, Hofstra Utility

Dylan Palmer is off to a strong start in his sophomore campaign, batting a team-leading .450 in 80 at-bats through March 20. Palmer produced .536 on-base percentage, tops among all Pride hitters, and has successfully stolen base 12 times on 13 attempts—also a team-high. 

Palmer delivered a pair of four-hit performances against both New Mexico and Columbia.
