Oklahoma State fans have plenty of reasons to watch Who’s #1. 

In fact, Cowboys fans have more reasons to watch than any other school with three committed wrestlers in the fray. Iowa has two commits competing with Drake Ayala and Wyatt Henson, Ohio State has two with Seth Shumate and Paddy Gallagher, and Penn State has one with Alex Facundo after Shayne Van Ness was forced to withdraw due to injury.

The three future Cowboys are Victor Voinovich, who is taking on Jager Condomitti at 152, Travis Mastrogiovanni, who will lock up with Paddy Gallagher at 160, and Kyle Haas who will be taking on Nick Feldman at 220.

The Cowboys had the #1 recruiting class for 2020 with a deep, stout group that included AJ Ferrari and Dustin Plott, who both held the #1 overall spot at various points before injuries along with Trevor Mastrogiovanni, Luke Surber, Konner Doucet, Daniel Jezik, and a host of other talents.

The Cowboys might already have the #1 class for 2021 with Voinovich, Mastrogiovanni, Haas, along with Cooper Birdwell and Teague Travis. But the performance of the three wrestlers competing at Who’s #1 may be what determines whether or not OSU officially gets the #1 class.

Oklahoma State has more talent competing here than any other program, but those three are also on the lower end of the 2021 Big Board compared to the group that’s headed to Penn State and some of the athletes that are headed to Iowa and Ohio State. Not to mention, Arizona State has the #1 overall prospect for 2021 in Richard Figueroa and most expect likely land #5 Cael Valencia who has deep family ties to the program.

How can OSU solidify that they’re the #1 class? By winning here.

If Travis Mastrogiovanni, currently ranked #9 on the 2021 Big Board, beats Paddy Gallagher, Mastro will vault up the class rankings where Gallagher currently sits at #6. If Voinovich can take out #13 Condomitti, he will climb above his current #15 spot. Kyle Haas is currently #10 overall and is wrestling a competitor in the 2022 class, but a win here would certainly at least keep him in his #10 spot and, depending on how other matches shake out, could move him up some as well.

With the limited tournament action expected this season due to COVID-19, Who’s #1 could be the event to decide whether or not Oklahoma State can secure back to back #1 recruiting classes.
