As the premier high school event of the year, college wrestling fans should be tuning in. If your school of choice is not being represented, their competition is. Who’s #1 features the future stars of the sport; just take a look at all of the WNO alumni success.

This article is broken down into two sections: those who have at least verbally committed to a school, and those who are still on the market. Well over half of the athletes competing are already committed, so let’s start there.

The Big Ten leads the conference race with nine future wrestlers, but it’s Oklahoma State winning the team race with three: Victor Voinovich, Travis Mastrogiovanni, and Kyle Haas. Mastrogiovanni and Haas are both top 10 recruits from the class of 2021 and will be joining family members in Stillwater, Trevor Mastrogiovanni, and Tyler Caldwell. Voinovich is the #15 overall recruit.

Iowa, Nebraska, and Ohio State will all have two competitors while the final eight schools represented will have one.

Uncommitted Wrestlers

Of the six uncommitted male wrestlers, Cael Valencia is the only senior. The brother of Zahid and Anthony Valencia, Arizona State is in play, but certainly not a lock. Cael is still keeping his options open. The highest-ranking uncommitted wrestler on the Class of 2021 Big Board, Valencia will be a huge pickup wherever he goes.

Jesse Mendez, Jordan Williams, and Rylan Rogers are all top-10 preps from the class of 2022, while Nick Feldman sits just outside the top 10 at #11. 

The only sophomore competing at Who’s #1 Cody Chittum’s school list is somewhat preliminary as he cannot even be contacted by college coaches yet. However, the Tennessee native does have coaching ties to both Maryland and Iowa.

On the women’s side of things, senior Mia Palumbo and junior Skylar Hattendorf listed mostly top programs. However, first-year program William Penn did make its way onto Palumbo’s list. Kylie Welker and Sage Mortimer opted not to share their recruiting information.
