Surprising Probables Starting Lineups For Iowa - Princeton

Des Moines Register reporter Cody Goodwin published the probable starting lineups for Friday's Iowa - Princeton dual on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

As Cody mentioned, these are subject to change, but normally do not. Here are the main takeaways:

1. No Spencer Lee

This is truly unfortunate as he was slate to wrestle #3 Pat Glory. Lee is 2-0 against Glory in his career, winning 18-2 and 12-6. One would have to assume this is a move to keep Lee healthy for March.

Tom Brands gave an interview with Cody Goodwin and gave the following quote:

“His (Spencer Lee’s) availability is that he will be on the mat when he’s on the mat” - Tom Brands

You can watch the full interview HERE.

2. Only Abe Assad at 184

There's been a lot of talk about who would start at 184 this season for the Hawkeyes: 2020 starter Abe Assad or 2021 starter Nelson Brands? Looks like we have our answer here which transitions into takeaway #3.

3. TBD at 174

Similar to Spencer Lee at 125, one would think this is a move to limit the number of times Michael Kemerer takes the mat in order to keep him wrestling his best in March. Now, does this mean we will see Brands cut down to 174? He did wrestle 165 as a true freshman in 2019-20. Or will we see U23 World Teamer Myles Wilson take the mat for the Hawks?

4. No Max Murin

Max Murin is a fifth-year senior, but it was still a little surprising to see him not starting in Iowa's opener. Hopefully he is healthy. We could see the return of Vince Turk.

You can watch along as the Hawkeyes and Tigers wrestle Friday night with FloWrestling's watch party where the FloWrestling team will provide a live second-screen experience for you. If you can't watch or that's not your thing, we will also have a live updates article as the dual occurs.
