Drexel Women's Basketball Recognized As USBWA National Team Of The Week

Drexel University’s Women’s Basketball program has been recognized as the National Team of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Dragons went 2-0, defeating Elon and William & Mary on the road in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) competition.

On Friday, Drexel erased a double-digit deficit to come from behind and defeat Elon 72-60. The comeback effort was sparked by Hannah Nihill, who scored 19 of her 21 points in the final 20 minutes. Tessa Brugler also recorded a season-high 20 points with 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.

On Sunday, the Dragons escaped Williamsburg with a thrilling double-overtime victory, outlasting William & Mary 75-67. Keishana Washington poured in a career-high 40 points in the effort, including 18 in the two overtime periods and 13 of Drexel’s 17 in the second overtime.

Drexel improved to 16-2 overall and remained unbeaten in CAA play (8-0). The Dragons extended their winning streak to 13 games, the second-longest active winning streak in NCAA DI Women’s College Basketball.

In addition to the Team of the Week honors, Drexel has caught the nation’s eye receiving votes in the latest edition of the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 Poll. The Dragons are the second CAA team this season to receive votes in the poll and the first since Delaware received votes in the preseason.
