The MAC Championships go down Friday, March 4th - Saturday, March 5th in Athen, Ohio. Eight teams make for nice and easy brackets!

Below is everything you need to know before Friday with the event’s schedule and conference standings, seeds, and a weight-by-weight breakdown.

Top-seeded Dresden Simon isn’t just the best wrestler at the weight, but one of the best wrestlers in the conference. Currently ranked #7 in the country, Simon has wins over Clay Carlson, Stevan Micic, and Grant Willits this season. In addition, the Chip gave Jaydin Eierman all he could handle at Collegiate Duals. Although he didn’t earn an allocation, Kinner is a solid two-seed. He lost in a wild 10-8 match to Simon early in the season. However, he got the better of three-seed Seth Koleno in a tamer 4-2 match.

This is potentially Cleveland’s State’s best shot at an individual title. Deandre Nassar at 184 is solid but is the three-seed. Now, Marcus Robinson recently lost to Alec Hagan, so this is far from a done deal. Hagan lost to the #5, #4, #3, and #2 seeds, however, which is how he ended up with the six-seed. I do not expect this bracket to go chalk.

Johnny Lovett is a heavy favorite to win this bracket. What really catches my eye is Michael Petite at the five-seed. A returning national qualifier, Petite is 0-2 against Alex Carida in his career but will be a tough match.

In two MAC Championship appearances, Izzak Olejnik only has two losses. I would be very surprised if it became three this year. After making the round of 16 at last year’s NCAA tournament, he’s only lost top-10 opponents this season. The real question at 165 is can Tracy Hubbard get in. He wrestled Riley Smucker to a two-point match at the Cleveland State Open in December.

Sal Perrine has definitely burst onto the scene this year as a true freshman for Ohio.     21 - 2, his only losses are to Mason Kauffman and Ethan Smith of Ohio State. A 3-2 match against Kauffman I wouldn’t be completely shocked if Perrine could get round two. Should be a fun final if it isn’t blown up by Bret Fedewa or Logan Messer.
