CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elijah Dickerson | OF | Towson
Jr. - Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley
Dickerson batted .571 (8-14) with a double, triple, three homers and seven RBI’s in Towson’s four games last week. In the CAA series with Hofstra, the junior had a .714 on base percentage, went deep three times, drove in six and delivered a walk-off RBI triple in the 10th to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory on Sunday. Dickerson is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak.

Good scattered six hits, gave up one earned run and struck out a career-high 11 with no walks over 7.0 innings in Charleston’s 11-2 victory at Elon last Friday. After surrendering an unearned run in the first, the junior allowed only two baserunners to get into scoring position until the seventh. Good, who improved to 6-3, fanned multiple batters in five of his seven frames.

Mathis contributed with his arm and bat in Charleston’s three-game series sweep at Elon. On the mound, the freshman gave up three hits over 4.0 shutout innings and struck out five in two relief appearances. As the Cougars’ DH on Sunday, he delivered a key two-run homer in the 6th inning that gave Charleston a three-run lead.

CHARLESTON RECORDS THIRD STRAIGHT SWEEP: Charleston extended its CAA winning streak to nine games after recording its third straight series sweep at Elon last weekend. The Cougars, who improved to 13-2, have built a 3.5-game lead over second-place UNCW. Charleston, which is 9-0 at home in league play, entertains Delaware this weekend.
UNCW, JMU AND HOFSTRA STAY HOT: Along with Charleston, the three teams behind them in the CAA standings stayed hot. James Madison recorded its first CAA series sweep since 2019 over William & Mary and have won five of six in league play. UNCW captured its third straight CAA series by taking two-of-three at Delaware. Hofstra won two-of-three at Towson for its fourth series victory in five CAA weekends.
CLOSE GAMES IN CAA PLAY: Seven of the 12 conference games played last weekend were decided by three runs or less. For the season, more than half of all league contests (31-of-60) have had margins of three runs or fewer.
CHARLESTON (26-13, 13-2 CAA): The Cougars extended their winning streak to seven after an 8-7 win at USC Upstate and a three-game sweep at Elon. Tyler Sorrentino and Trotter Harlan each drove in four in a 11-2 victory over the Phoenix on Friday. Ty Good (6-3) held the Phoenix to one earned run over 7.0 innings and fanned a career-high 11. Trey Pooser (3-1) provided 5.0 shutout innings of relief in a 3-0 triumph on Saturday. William Privette got his 8th save and didn’t allow a run over 3.0 frames last week to drop his ERA to 0.86. Freshman Cole Mathis and Luke Wood each smacked 2-run homers in Sunday’s 8-3 win. Mathis also threw 4.0 scoreless innings in two relief appearances last week.
DELAWARE (22-16, 6-6 CAA): The Blue Hens went 2-3 in a busy week, rolling over UMES (15-0) last Wednesday and rallying past UNCW (3-2) on Saturday. Delaware got a solo homer from JJ Freeman in the 7th and a 2-run shot from Nick Vera in the 8th to pull out the win over the Seahawks. Zach Klapak escaped a bases loaded jam and didn’t allow a hit over the final 3.0 innings vs. UNCW on Saturday to move to 5-1. Freeman had a hit in all five games and homered twice. Aidan Kane batted .421 (8-19) for the week with two doubles, a triple, five runs scored and six RBI’s. Freshman Carter Welch held UMES to two hits over 4.0 scoreless innings. Joseph Carpenter belted a 3-run homer in Sunday’s loss to UNCW.
ELON (18-21, 3-9 CAA): The Phoenix topped High Point, 5-1, last Tuesday, but dropped three games to Charleston in CAA play. Luke Stephenson went 3-for-3 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBI’s in the win over HPU. Cam Seguin (2-1) picked up the victory after giving up one run over 4.2 innings and striking out four. Liam Dabagian allowed just one hit and fanned four over 2.2 frames in two relief appearances vs. CofC. Justin Cassella pushed his hitting streak to six games last week. Charlie Granatell was 2-for-4 with a run scored on Sunday, which was his 11th multi-hit game of the season. Ben Simon held CofC scoreless over the final 2.1 innings on Sunday.
HOFSTRA (18-16, 9-6 CAA): The Pride had a 3-1 week, beating Fairfield (9-3) before claiming their fourth CAA series by getting two-of-three at Towson. Kevin Bruggeman batted .444 (8-18) with five RBI’s for the week, which included a grand slam at Fairfield. He also pushed his hitting streak to seven games. Jake Liberatore hit .412 over the four games, while Anthony D’Onofrio extended his on-base streak to 22 games. Hofstra trailed in all four games, but rallied to win three of them and forced extra innings on Sunday. Tristan Nemjo gave up just one run during 4.0 innings of relief to earn his first win on Saturday. Cullen SantaMaria and Steven Kaenzig recorded their first career saves last week.
JAMES MADISON (23-17, 9-6 CAA): The Dukes had a 4-1 week, capped by a CAA sweep of William & Mary. Travis Reifsnider delivered a walk-off double in the 10th as JMU rallied for a 5-4 win over the Tribe on Friday and was 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI’s in a 4-1 victory on Saturday. He leads the CAA with 10 HR’s. Ryan Dooley batted .364 for the week and also drew five walks for a .529 on base percentage. Liam McDonnell moved to 6-0 after limiting W&M to five hits and one run over 6.0 innings. He’s the first JMU pitcher to win his first six decisions to 2010. Carson Bell homered and drove in three as the Dukes completed the sweep by winning 10-3. The Dukes have four players with at least 7 HR’s.
UNCW (23-15, 8-4 CAA): The Seahawks split four road games last week, but won two-of-three at Delaware to move into second place in the CAA. Ethan Baucom drew a walk in the 11th to force in the winning run in Friday’s 6-5 victory at UD and went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI’s in Sunday’s 11-8 triumph. He batted .429 for the week and regained the lead as the NCAA’s active HR leader with 61. Chris Thorburn had six hits in the UD series and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Cyle Phelan threw 6.0 shutout innings at UD on Saturday, pushing his scoreless streak to 17 innings. He’s 2-0 with a 1.49 ERA. Jason Hudak (3-0) earned the win on Friday after firing 3.0 shutout innings from the pen.
NORTHEASTERN (19-20-1, 4-8 CAA): The Huskies went 1-3 on the road last week, picking up an 11-1 victory at High Point on Saturday as part of a three-game set. Wyatt Scotti improved to 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA after scattering seven hits over 6.0 shutout innings and fanning four. Max Viera provided most of the offense with a three-run homer and a three-run double. Spenser Smith batted .375 (6-14) for the week with six runs scored and two RBI’s. Freshman Luke Masiuk hit .385 (5-13) for the week, including four hits over the final two games at HPU. Luke Beckstein was 3-for-5 and drove in two at Bryant and also had two hits and two RBI’s in the HPU victory. TOWSON (10-29, 1-11 CAA): The Tigers defeated Hofstra, 5-4, in 10 innings on Sunday to earn their first CAA win of the season and end a nine-game slide. Elijah Dickerson delivered a walk-off RBI triple in the 10th and batted .600 (6-10) with three homers and six RBI’s in the Hofstra series. He has nine HR’s for the season. Jack McLaughlin was 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Saturday vs. Hofstra and went 3-for-5 and drove in a run in a 4-3 loss to nationally ranked Maryland in 10 innings. He’s batting a team-best .343 on the year. Jake Pecilunas didn’t allow an earned run in 2.2 innings of work last week, lowering his ERA to 1.99 in 17 appearances. Max Simpson tossed 3.0 shutout frames from the pen last week.
WILLIAM & MARY (17-19, 7-8 CAA): The Tribe suffered four losses last week, including three at CAA foe James Madison. Outfielder Matt Thomas batted .500 (6-12) against the Dukes and extended his hitting streak to six games. Freshman Lucas Carmichael went 2-for-2 and drove in all three runs in Sunday’s 10-3 setback. Ben Williamson, who is batting a team-best .328 for the year, has reached base in 19 consecutive games. Nate Knowles tossed 3.0 shutout innings from the pen on Saturday, while Matt Howat threw 2.1 scoreless frames on Friday. Rojo Prarie struck out six in 4.0 innings on Saturday and has 32 K’s in 26.2 innings this season.
