Richmond's Jake Larson Is The FCS National Special Teams Player Of The Week
Richmond kicker Jake Larson earned FCS National Player of the Week for his performance against Delaware, which included booting the game-winning field goal.
Richmond junior kicker Jake Larson was honored as the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by Stats Perform.
Larson booted three field goals, including a game-winning 39-yarder with four seconds to play, as No. 12 Richmond got past No. 17 Delaware, 21-13, last Saturday. The junior, who had missed the past four games due to injury, also hit field goals of 46 and a season-best 48 yards in the contest.
CAA Football player has now had eight players recognized as a FedEx Ground National Players of the Week by Stats Perform. Delaware linebacker Johnny Buchanan was named National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5 following his school-record 23-tackle performance in the Blue Hens’ victory over Navy. William & Mary cornerback Jalen Jones received National Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 12 after intercepting three passes in the Tribe’s win over Campbell.
Delaware quarterback Nolan Henderson was chosen as the National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 after passing for a career-high 379 yards and four touchdowns in the Blue Hens’ 42-21 triumph over Rhode Island. UAlbany quarterback Reese Poffenbarger earned National Freshman of the Week honors on Oct. 17 after throwing for 337 yards and four touchdowns against Hampton.
On Oct. 24, New Hampshire punter Sean Lehane was named National Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 44.8 yards on five punts and dropping four of them inside the 10-yard line in a victory over Elon. Stony Brook quarterback Charlie McKee was chosen as the National Freshman of the Week after throwing for a career-high 249 yards and three touchdowns in a win against Maine.
Towson returned D’Ago Hunter was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 31 after amassing 334 all-purpose yards in a win over Monmouth, including a 92-yard kickoff return for a TD and a 74-yard punt return that set up a score.
Along with Larson’s award, Stats Perform recognized Richmond as honorable mention for FCS National Team of the Week.
