The Iowa women's wrestling program was perfect at the prestigious Missouri Valley Invitational this weekend even though they lost two matches. 

Seven future Hawkeyes entered unattached and five won titles. The other two finished second, losing tight matches to teammates. Iowa-Unattached combined for a 36-2 overall record.

Sterling Dias (101), Nyla Valencia (109), Felicity Taylor (116), Nanea Estrella (136), and Reese Larramendy (143) won titles while identical twin sisters Emilie and Brianna Gonzalez were finalists. 

The Hawkeyes passed a significant test and proved they can contend for a national title next season when they begin their official competition schedule. 

Taylor and Estrella are the only Hawkeyes with prior college experience. Taylor was a three-time NCWWC finalist and 2021 national champion for McKendree while Estrella placed second at the NAIA championships for Menlo earlier this year. 

"It was a great first tournament for all of us," Taylor said. "I'm so proud of the girls. We have been training hard and it showed this weekend. We went out there to battle and have fun, and we did both. I couldn't get much better than that and we are just getting started.

"As for myself, it was good to get back on the mat again. Now back to training to get ready for World Cup. It's a great day to be a Hawkeye."
