Hunter Garvin Has Made His College Decision
Hunter Garvin, one of the most coveted middle-weight recruits in the class of 2022, has decided where he'll compete at the next level.
Hunter Garvin has been on a lot of coaches' radars throughout his high school career, but in the last 12 months, he's solidified himself as a D1-ready prospect. Now, he knows where he plans to train and compete next.
The Iowa City West senior has decided to head west to join Rob Koll and company at Stanford. Garvin trusts Coach Koll, the first coach who recruited him, with the future of his wrestling career, and he's also thrilled to be attending one of the top academic institutions in the world.
After winning an Iowa state title in February, Garvin put the nation on notice by winning a loaded USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals bracket. In that tournament, he knocked off Super 32 champ Alek Martin and three-time Fargo champ Jordan Williams.
The third-ranked 145-pounder in the nation will join a Stanford recruiting class that already includes Daniel Cardenas (#3 at 152) and Jack Darrah (#9 at 220). Garvin and Cardenas will join a middle-weight group that includes #9 Real Woods at 141 lbs, #6 Jaden Abas at 149 lbs, and Shane Griffith, #1 at 165 lbs. Griffith was an NCAA champion last season, and Abas finished 7th.
In addition to being an excellent individual recruit for Coach Koll, Garvin is the first big-time recruit from Iowa to join the Stanford squad in recent memory, a good sign for fans of the Cardinal.
