Grand Valley State softball has a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title to defend and is looking to get back to the final round of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, too.

The numbers, as they say, don’t lie and it was revealing to compare the Women’s College World Series TV ratings with those of the Men’s College World Series where Virginia defeated Vanderbilt on Wednesday.

This is it… it’s down to a one-game season for the NCAA Div. I National Championship!

Florida beat Michigan last night in Game 1 of the best-of-three Women’s College World Series Championship Series in an awesome game that came down to the last batter… fortunately for the Gators Lauren Haeger did enough damage early to give them a lead that Michigan couldn’t surmount.

Although the Women’s College World Series is down to two teams from East of the Mississippi—with Michigan representing the Big Ten and the University of Florida hailing from the SEC—you may (or may not) be surprised to learn that there are more players from California high schools still playing than from any other state.

Florida beat Michigan during the regular season—shoot, outside the SEC they went an amazing 34-0 so they beat everyone ­– but both times went undefeated in the World Series to this point and, with All-Americans all over the field this game, this showdown promised to be exciting.

Corrin Genovese was an All-SEC player last year at Missouri. Corrin Genovese was a 1st Team All-SEC selection at Missouri in 2014 when she hit .410 and was rated the 4th toughest player in Div. I softball to strikeout as she struck out just three times in 134 at-bats. She also hit .600 in the NCAA Regionals.

Sierra Romero Earlier this week, espnW named Michigan All-American Sierra Romero as it’s College Softball Player of the Year. The California native has Michigan poised as one of the favorites to make it to the Women’s College World Series as the Wolverines were seeded No. 3 going into this weekend’s play.
