Harutyunyan won his first senior level medal representing his home country of Armenia in 2019 with a European Championships win at 61 kg. Competing down at 57 kg, Harutyunyan qualified Armenia for the Tokyo Olympics in Men's Freestyle with a win in a 2021 Olympic Qualification Tournament.
