2023-24 NCAA DI Rankings
Penn State
Team points are calculated using hypothetical tournament points based on individual weight class rankings. Dual meet results are not factored into the rankings, nor are subjective opinions considered.
We don't usually explain the below rankings because they are only based on points wrestlers earn for their ranking (explained below). However, because the NCAA Tournament just occurred, it's worth explaining why the rankings below differ from the final score at the NCAA Tournament.
The major difference is in bonus points. Both Penn State and Cornell scored significant bonus points and we don't account for those in our projected scores. At the NCAA Tournament, Penn State's wrestlers scored a combined 35 bonus points. Meanwhile, Cornell earned 19.5 bonus points from their wrestlers. If you add those points to the below scores, it will fall more in line with the final team results from this year's NCAA Tournament.
Team points are calculated based on the below scoring:
1st - 20 points
2nd - 16 points
3rd - 13.5 points
4th - 12.5 points
5th - 10 points
6th - 9 points
7th - 6.5 points
8th - 5.5 points
9th-12th - 2 points
13th-16th - 1.5 points
17th-24th - 0.5 points
