2020-21 NCAA D1 Pretend Preseason Rankings
133
The NCAA has decided not to grant winter sport athletes another year of eligibility. These preseason rankings, however, have been assembled presupposing that those extra years were granted and that everyone elected to return and compete. We had to make a bunch of other assumptions too since it's April and all sorts of speculative lineup decisions have yet to be hypothetically made. So best not to take these too seriously, even though it would be incredibly cool if it happened. But no, only in our dreams. As real as it may seem, it will only occur in our dreams.
Our alternate reality 133 is wild. We're assuming Piccininni comes back at 125 and that Fix returns to 133. We're also assuming that Suriano dons a scarlet-colored singlet again, which means Sammy Alvarez taks redshirt (or bumps up), and that Micic is in the maize and blue at 133. Rivera and Gross are both back for another season, plus RBY, DeSanto, Tucker, Phillippi, and Piotrowski round out the insane top 10. Tucker checks in at #8 and Tucker was undefeated last season!
Suriano and Fix could arguably take the top two spots, but we gave the razor-thin edge to 2020 Big Ten champ Rivera and the 2018 NCAA champ Gross. Micic is an NCAA finalist that barely cracks the top 5 in this ridiculous imaginary weight class.
Elsewhere, Michael McGee transferred to Arizona State after Old Dominion foolishly closed down their program. We expect Brandon Courtney to start at 125 for the Sun Devils and for McGee to bump up to 133. Matt Schmitt is another transfer coming off redshirt and is expected to man the 133 spot in the Mizzou lineup next season.
